Welcome to A Green Eyed View. I've been answering questions and educating people for 10 years at HealthyHome.com. This is a way for me to share some of the knowledge I've gained as the owner of one of the oldest green businesses online. Please feel free to send me a question or a suggestion. I'll do my best to answer your inquiries, either here as a post to my blog, or via email.
In my day to day business of helping people at HealthyHome.com I talk to people one at a time about why it is important to choose products that are safer alternatives to the more toxic common products found at the hardware store or grocery store. Hopefully this website can reach a broader audience with those same day to day issues.
Many of the people I speak with already have found out the hard way that over-exposure to toxic chemicals can be harmful. The broad category of Environmental Illness includes Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalopathy (ME/CFS), Fibromyalgia, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS), and allergies. Unfortunately there are limited health care options when dealing with these conditions and so individuals who are affected do a great deal of homework finding products and solutions to avoid being unnecessarily exposed to anything that might aggravate their illness.
What we'll be talking about in A Green Eyed View will be helpful to anyone who is concerned about their health, their home environment and the environment in general. Making "green" choices does not always mean those choices are right for everyone. If you are affected by Environmental Illness, it is extremely important to test any and all products for personal tolerance. No two individuals will have the same reaction to exposure to the chemicals found in the products available.
There are some general guidelines for eliminating the most toxic products when you are faced with making the decision to buy something new for your home. For instance, synthetic carpet has been a repeated source of irration and has sometimes caused people to move out of their homes until it can be replaced with soemthing less harmful. Not everyone has such a strong reaction, but it can't hurt to choose a less toxic option. What I can help you do is narrow the field of possible options so when it is time to make a choice you'll know what you're dealing with. The ultimate decision is always based on your own tolerance.
I'll be posting as often as possible so stay tuned. You can subscribe and get the latest updates when I publish a new post. Eventually I'll have an email newsletter available also. Let's grow this knowledge base together for the benefit of everyone.
So once again I want to welcome you along for a journey of discovery and sharing that can improve your quality of life and ultimately the quality of life for all of us.
Cheers,
Tom
And yes, my eyes are green.
